- Nilgiri Martens measure around 40 inches or so, from nose to tail. Their tails are almost three-fourths the length of their body.
- With the distinct yellow patch on the nape of their necks, they are quite similar in appearance to their cousin, the Yellow-throated Marten of the Himalayas.
- Nilgiri Martens have low-lying bodies and short limbs. They have triangular faces with rounded ears, soft brown fur and bushy tails.
