Who Decides Where Elephants Sleep?

We often assume that wildlife belongs exclusively in forests or protected areas. An animal, however, will take what it is given, and make the best of it. Two elephants, a mother and son, sleep peacefully on an open patch of ground alongside a tea field.

Ganesh Raghunathan began his career as a freelance photographer, primarily shooting music concerts. Having now worked with Nature Conservation Foundation in Valparai for a decade, a major part of his photography and filming has inclined towards capturing the secret lives of elephants and the environmental factors affecting them. Ganesh’s team won the Whitley Fund for Nature award in 2015 for their work on addressing human-elephant conflict. He has worked as a consultant for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Odisha State Forest Departments on issues relating to human-elephant conflict.
