An abandoned kite string claims the lives of a River Tern adult and chick. Despite a ban on kite strings made of abrasive materials such as glass powder and metal, kite flying events lead to several birds getting trapped, injured or killed.


Deven Mehta

Deven Mehta is an avian and wildlife biologist and a researcher. He has studied the ecology of birds in northeast and western India and has worked with reputed institutes like the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun; ATREE, Bangalore and Center for Ecology Development and Research (CEDAR), Dehradun. He has also worked with the forest departments of various states like Nagaland, Gujarat and Meghalaya.
