The Thar, the Great Indian Desert, is a massive stretch of land spread over 320,000 sq.km – much of it within the state of Rajasthan. A land of extreme climates, it is a tourist hotspot, known for its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and the heartwarming hospitality of the people. What it’s not immediately associated with, is wildlife. But there’s more to this distinctive habitat than meets the eye.

The Desert National Park, near Jaisalmer, is one of the largest national parks in the country. It is one of the best places to observe and learn more about the wildlife that thrives within this seemingly inhospitable habitat. In fact, the amazing diversity of life – be it birds, mammals or reptiles – will make you wonder if this desert is actually deserted at all. The curves of the sand dunes may seem barren, but when you look closer, you’ll see that this land buzzes with wildlife at all hours.

Over the years, we have visited Desert National Park countless times, and have been fortunate enough to observe and photograph the wonders of this extreme landscape. We have witnessed the remarkable ways that wildlife adapts itself and evolves to survive and thrive in these challenging conditions.
