It was November 2021, my first visit to LRK ( Little Rann of Kutch ). I was quite excited for the trip. The first two days went well with good sightings of Macqueen Bustards and some good shots of the short eared owl. Early mornings were chilly, however as the day progresses mercury started to rise. Suddenly I heard a massive sound of the flapping of wings. It was a huge imperial eagle just landed in a distance. That was my first sighting of this majestic raptor. I laid down on the ground softly without much noise. To my surprise the raptor was moving on feet here & there without much activity. I kept on waiting in the same posture. Almost for 45 mins I laid down without much luck. All of a sudden I could sense something crawling on my leg just above the socks, surely a desert bug. I thought it would pass away, but no, it was biting me, I just turned my head to have a glimpse of it and could see a giant ant having a feast. I still laid down not moving an inch. The raptor was flapping its wings, I knew something interesting is going to happen. There it was, the imperial eagle was about to take off, a “now or never” situation for me. I had my settings in place and went for the shot. My patience paid off but with a price.
