'Internet of Birds' - a new platform to identify species
Accenture and the Bombay Natural History Society have developed an Internet of Things-based image recognition platform to identify birds endemic to India.
If you are a birding enthusiast and do not have someone around to bother with your million questions, say hello to 'Internet of Birds'.
Accenture Labs in Bengaluru and the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) in Mumbai have developed an Internet of Things-based platform that identifies birds.
The cloud-based software uses Artificial Intelligence (machine learning and computer vision) to recognise species from digital photographs.
‘Internet of Birds’ is free, and uses crowd-sourcing to populate its database. As of right now, it can identify 300 species. According to Business Line, Sanjay Podder, Managing Director, Accenture Labs, said, “We believe Artificial Intelligence has significant untapped potential to improve the way we work and live and were attracted to this project because it’s this kind of innovation and exploration that is needed to begin tackling big issues.”
